Maine Women in the Arts, a statewide, nonprofit organization that promotes and gives exposure to artists and their work in all media, recently presented four $100 scholarships to selected York County adult education programs.

Recipients were Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education, RSU 21 (Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel) Adult Education, Sanford/Springvale Community Adult Education, and Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult and Community Education. Most of these programs will use the scholarship funds to purchase art materials for adults enrolled in their courses.

Attending the MWA presentation of scholarships and accepting on behalf of their organizations were Christopher Chessie, director of Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education; Lisa Crothers, RSU 21 director; Ann Schultz, literacy instructor for the RSU 21 project; and Deb Thompson, art instructor for Sanford/ Springvale Adult Education. The men and women of the MWA have three shows each year in July, September and December. As part of the shows, MWA has fundraising projects to support its annual scholarships.

The next show is Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the Masonic Lodge in Kennebunkport. A public reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Sept. 30 to meet the artists. For more information, go to mainewomenarts.com.
