AUGUSTA (AP) — The Maine Department of Labor says the state’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 4 percent in August.

The department said Tuesday that the unemployment rate rose from 3.9 percent in July and is up from a low of 3.4 percent in March and April.

The state’s jobless rate is lower than the nationwide unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.

Overall, New England’s unemployment rate was 4.2 percent. New Hampshire had the lowest rate at 3 percent while Rhode Island and Connecticut had the highest rates, both at 5.6 percent.
