Maine Turnpike authorities are warning motorists of icy conditions and reported several crashes in the West Gardiner area due to freezing rain late Monday night.
One crash between Exit 103 in West Gardiner and the end of the Maine Turnpike at Mile 109 was causing delays, officials said.
“Motorists should use extreme caution,” officials said on the Maine Turnpike Authority’s Facebook page.
The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph from the New Gloucester toll plaza at mile 67 to the northern end of the turnpike at mile 109.
In the Portland area, temperatures were forecast to be in the high 30s and low 40s overnight Monday.
