WINTHROP, Mass. — Freshmen Elaine Dudley (North Waterboro, Maine) and Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) continued their impressive rookie seasons, sweeping the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week honors for the Norwich University swimming and diving team on Monday.

Dudley won her eighth straight GNAC Rookie of the Week honor and is the only individual to win the league Rookie of the Week award in the 2016-17 season.

She won three individual events and was part of the 200-meter medley winning relay team to help lead the Cadets to their second dual meet victory of the season with a 167-95 win over Elms. Prior to this season, NU hadn’t won a dual since 2010.

Dudley won the 100-meter butterfly in 1:09.75, the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.79 and the 200-meter IM in 2:33.98. She teamed with Annelies Heni (Ridgewood, N.Y.), freshman Emma Nettleship (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Alexis Spry (Corning, N.Y.) to take the 200-meter medley relay in 2:21.86.

DiGiacomo has now won six of the seven GNAC Rookie of the Week awards this season after taking the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:04.67 and the 50-meter butterfly in 28.50. He also teamed with Asa Wolfe (Chattaroy, Wash.), JP Myers (Scranton, Pa.) and Ryan Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine) to win the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:47.76.

The NU men improved to 6-3 on the season in dual meets and will close out the dual-meet portion of its season on Jan. 28 by hosting UMass Dartmouth at Goodyear Pool at 2 p.m. The women end the dual meet season at 2-7, their best mark since 2000-01. The women are next in action Feb. 17-19 at the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, hosted by the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.
