PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Lenore S. Muir (nee: Schiebler), 87, recently of Rhode Island and formerly of Reading, Pennsylvania; Saco, Maine; Carver, Massachusetts; Manhattan, New York, and Hamburg Pennsylvania, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, peacefully at home after a long illness surrounded by her loving family.

Born in 1929, she was the daughter of Alwin R. Schiebler and Charlotte E. Schiebler (nee Schmöle) of Hamburg, Pennsylvania.

Lenore is preceded in death by: her brother, Klaus Schiebler: former spouse, Robert F. Muir; and son, Ronald L. Muir.  

Lenore was 10th in her class at Hamburg High School, an avid gardener, reader, and devoted mother and grandmother. Lenore went to nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Lenore had a career as a registered nurse working in the New York City school system, Mayflower Care in Carver, Massachusetts, and at the Sweetser Home in Saco, before retiring.

Lenore was a loving mother who had a generous heart, and an indomitable spirit, overcoming many difficult obstacles in her life’s journey — a spirit she passed on to her sons and grandchildren. 

Lenore is survived by: her younger son, Robert Muir, of Saint Johnsbury, Vermont, and daughter-in-law, Maureen Muir of Providence, Rhode Island, and their three children, Devin, Owen, and Avery Muir, of Providence, Rhode Island; Ronald Muir’s three children, Brian, Kate, and Ben Muir; brother, Gerold Schiebler; nephew, Mark; nieces, Marcie, Kristen, Bettina, Wanda, Michelle; and longtime companion, James “Al” Zweizig.

A memorial service will be performed at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Westminster Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Road. East Greenwich, RI, 02818. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
