TRUMBULL, Conn. — Agnes Sophie (Buzzell) Smith, age 81, died peacefully in her sleep at Maefair Health Care Center in Trumbull, Connecticut on April 17, 2017 at 9:30p.m.

She was born in Saco, to Stephen and Lillian (Bennett) Buzzell. She was one of 11 children. Agnes graduated from Thornton Academy in 1953, and left Maine for Connecticut in 1957, where she spent the rest of her life. She was a long-time employee of Dallling Construction in Bridgeport, Connecticut working as a bookkeeper. She went on to work as a cashier at Kohls department store in Trumbull until her retirement in 2012.

As a young girl, she loved to roller skate, especially in Old Orchard Beach, and as she got older her hobbies turned to bingo, word searches, jigsaw puzzles, and coloring. She spent the last years of her life at The Hollander House in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she had many friends and participated in many activities.

Agnes was known for her infectious smile, and incredibly deep love. She was often called a spitfire, and never sugar coated anything. She told it like it was, but always with a smile. Some could say that her greatest legacy is the strong bond she created among her children and family. Agnes loved without fear, and never stopped moving. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could only be matched by her love of Elvis and teddy bears.

Agnes is survived by her children Kathleen Smith Santana and husband Eleuterio of Deltona, Florida; Patricia Smith Zraidi and husband Mohamed of Paris, France; Michael Smith and wife Betty of Woolwich, Maine; and Bryan Smith and wife Melissa of Stratford, Connecticut; grandchildren Nicholas Santana and wife Amanda, Nikole Goins and husband Christopher, Jaimee Mansfield and husband Pete, Emmelia Talarico, Brianna Sasson, Nezar Zraidi, and Samir Zraidi; great-grandchildren: Peter, Evan, Orryn, Malachy, Evangeline, Annabelle, Wren, and Karoline; siblings Christine Fournier, Barbara Lavassuer, Stephen Buzzell, Rosemary Lucier, and Charles Buzzell, all of Maine; Elizabeth Heyhal and Fred Buzzell of Connecticut, and George Buzzell and David Buzzell of South Carolina; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

She is preceded by her former husband Robert (Gus) Smith, and brother Richard Buzzell.

A graveside service will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Biddeford, on Tuesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. Local arrangements are under the care of Cote Funeral Home Saco.
