TOPSHAM

A 19-year-old Bath woman has lost her eye and received other serious injuries after she was hit in the face with a tire iron over the weekend, according to police.

Topsham police were contacted by Mid Coast Hospital’s Emergency Room at 5:42 a.m. Sunday after the woman showed up there with very serious injuries to her face, according to Sgt. Robert Ramsay.

The woman had been at a location in Topsham when a 16-year-old girl allegedly hit her in the face with a tire iron, police said.

The victim gave an officer her alleged attacker’s name.

Ramsay said the 16-year-old girl, a transient from the general area, came to the police station with her mother mid-morning Sunday and turned herself in. A juvenile community corrections officer was contacted and the girl was charged with elevated aggravated assault. She was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland to await a court appearance.

Mid Coast Hospital arranged for the victim to be transferred to Tufts University Hospital due to the severity of the injuries. Police were informed that the victim has lost one eye and has damage to the other eye, and sustained a head injury, Ramsay said.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding this incident should call the Topsham Police Department at (207) 725-4337.
