PORTLAND — A 42-year-old fisherman found in Portland harbor Aug. 10 was identified a day later by Portland Police as Paul J. Kirchhoff.

Kirchhoff was last seen with friends at Jay’s Oyster Bar just after midnight, according to Police Lt. Robert Martin. He had no fixed address.

“The cause of death was determined by the Medical Examiner to be from drowning with no other source of physical trauma,” Martin said in an Aug. 11 press release.

Kirchhoff’s body was discovered in the water on the west side of Long Wharf around 8:30 a.m., Martin said.

Martin said there was nothing “overtly suspicious” about Kirchhoff’s death, but police continued to investigate its circumstances. Anyone who saw Kirchhoff in the hours before his death is asked to call 874-8575.
