Two people in Maine came away as big winners in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, even though they didn’t take the top prize, according to a press release issued by the Maine Lottery.

Someone bought a $1 million Powerball ticket at Steamboat Galley in Searsport, the Maine Lottery said Thursday. That store will receive a $20,000 bonus. Another lucky person purchased a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket at Shaw’s supermarket in Freeport.

Shaw’s is across the street from the Circle K convenience store and gas station on Route 1, where Johnny and Joanne Desgrosseilliers, a retired Freeport couple, bought a $3.4 million Tri-State Megabucks ticket in April. Instead of choosing to receive annual payments spread over 30 years, the couple elected to take the one-time cash option of $1,283,342 – after federal and state withholding taxes.
