BRUNSWICK — Paced by the first-place finish of sophomore Chandler Vincent of Pownal and Freeport High School, the University of Southern Maine men’s cross country team finished second among the seven teams competing Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational II.

Vincent won the men’s race by covering the 8,000- meter course in 25 minutes, 59.9 seconds. Vincent finished more than 23 seconds ahead of runner-up Jeremiah Sands of the University of Maine at Farmington.

Freshmen Cameron Meier from Mt. Ararat took 17th for USM, while Lisbon’s Nick Harriman was 19th.

Southern Maine will travel to Boston this weekend to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association New England Championships at Franklin Park.
