HARPSWELL — The Maine Municipal Association has awarded the town two $2,000 Safety Enhancement and Scholarship grants, Town Administrator Kristi Eiane said in a press release.

The state programs offer financial incentives to members of the Maine Municipal Association Workers’ Compensation Fund, and are used to purchase equipment intended to reduce workplace injuries.

Eiane said the grant applications were submitted by Fire Administrator Art Howe, and will be used to purchase firefighter turnout gear, otherwise known as personal protective equipment, and breathing apparatus.
