Nyagoa Bayak

Nyagoa Bayak, Westbrook indoor track: A junior and defending Class A high jump champ, Bayak cleared 5 feet, 9 inches to win the Dartmouth Relays and vault to second in the country among high school girls. The height ties the Maine record set by Jesse Labreck of Messalonskee in 2008. Bayak also won the triple jump with a mark of 37-31/4.

HONORABLE MENTION

Julia Bisson, Greely diving: A junior, Bisson outdistanced her nearest competitor by more than 100 points to win a six-dive competition in South Portland. Bisson’s score of 241.60 is second in school history. Briana Hoffner, in 2001, scored 252.30.

Anna DeWolfe, Greely basketball: The junior guard scored 21 points and the winning basket in the final seconds as Greely beat York, 56-55. She also scored 26 points in a 66-62 win over Gorham.

Caroline Lerch, Portland/Deering hockey: The freshman forward had a hat trick in an 8-1 victory over Edward Little – helping Portland to a sixth straight win after a 2-3 start.

Noah Malone

Noah Malone, South Portland basketball: The 6-foot-2 senior guard led the Red Riots in scoring in three victories, including a 21-point effort against Deering and 18 points in a come-from-behind 72-63 victory over Windham that lifted South Portland to 7-1. Malone also scored 18 points in a victory against Massabesic.

HONORABLE MENTION

Nick Fiorillo, Scarborough, basketball: The 6-foot-7 junior guard/forward scored 16 points in a 55-50 win against Cheverus, then had 23 in a 58-53 overtime win at Deering.

Jarett Flaker, Scarborough indoor track: A sophomore and the defending Class A champ in the 55-meter dash, he won that event at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 6.52 seconds. He also won the 300 in 35.23.

Colby Frost, Bonny Eagle wrestling: Trailing 14-6 against Nick Roeger of Timberlane, New Hampshire, Frost, a freshman, turned an attacking move into a quick pin to take the 106-pound title at the Spartan tourney. He was the meet’s top wrestler.
