University of Maine freshman men’s hockey goalie Jeremy Swayman was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month on Thursday.
Swayman went 4-2-2 with a 2.34 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in January, highlighted by his first career shutout with a 31-save effort in a 3-0 win against Boston University on Jan. 6.
On Monday, Swayman picked up his fifth weekly honor of the season when he was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week after leading Maine (14-9-4, 8-6-3 in Hockey East) to a weekend sweep of Massachusetts. Swayman made 28 saves each night in a pair of 3-2 wins in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Swayman’s .927 save percentage is fifth in the nation and first in Hockey East.
Maine freshman Chase Pearson was the Player of the Month runner-up after leading Maine in scoring with five goals and six assists.
