CUMBERLAND — Undefeated Greely, seeking a second straight undefeated season, broke open a tight encounter early in the second half Friday night and went on to a 55-25 victory against Yarmouth in a Western Maine Confernce boys’ basketball game.

The game matched the undefeated Rangers (16-0) of Class A South and a Yarmouth team ranked among the top two in Class B South.

Shane DeWolfe scored 17 points and Logan Bagshaw added 13 for the Rangers. Jack Kane had nine.

Nolan Hagerty and Noah Eckersley-Ray each finished with six points for Yarmouth (10-6).

PORTLAND 67, CHEVERUS 45: Manny Yugu scored a game-high 23 points, including 14 in the second quarter, with six rebounds and five steals as the Bulldogs (15-1) defeated the visiting Stags (6-9) at Portland.

Treyvonnte Ballew had 11 points, and Terion Moss and Griffin Foley each scored eight for Portland, which used a 20-9 run in the second quarter to open a 33-19 lead.

Matt Duchaine had 12 points for Cheverus, including a pair of 3-pointers. Will Shibles contributed nine points.

SOUTH PORTLAND 68, GORHAM 44: Edward Buckley scored 18 points to lead the Red Riots (12-4) over Gorham (7-9) at South Portland.

Noah Malone added 15 points and Riley Hasson 11 for South Portland, which led 33-22 at halftime. Nick Strout had 15 points and Ryan Reno 10 rebounds for the Rams.

TRAIP ACADEMY 71, SACOPEE VALLEY 38: Will Stuart scored a game-high 28 points, and Dalen Hubbard and Tre Brown each added 12 to lift the Rangers (8-9) past the Hawks (0-14) at South Hiram.

Travis Weeks scored 12 points for Sacopee Valley.

FALMOUTH 40, BONNY EAGLE 30: Sam Manganello and Nick Hester each had 10 points to pace the Yachtsmen (9-7), who outscored the Scots (5-11) by five points in each half at Standish.

Alex Marcotte added nine points for Falmouth.

Zach Maturo led Bonny Eagle with 16 points.

WELLS 52, CAPE ELIZABETH 47: Matt Sherburne and Cam Cousins each scored 17 points for the Warriors (12-5), who overcame a 37-point performance by Finn Bowe to defeat the Capers (9-8) at Cape Elizabeth.

Bowe, who finished with seven 3-pointers, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter as Cape attempted to rally from a 37-26 deficit.

Tyler Bridge added 10 points for Wells, which took control with a 14-6 run in the third.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 64, POLAND 25: Zach Pomerleau and John Martin each scored 15 points, including a combined 22 points during a 25-2 run in the third quarter as the Patriots (10-6) pulled away from the Knights (2-14) at Gray.

Dalton Bolduc and Tyler Romano each scored seven points for Poland.

BIDDEFORD 51, MASSABESIC 45: The Tigers (13-3) used a 5-1 run to open the third quarter to stretch a three-point lead before holding off the Mustangs (3-12) at Waterboro.

Jackson Oloya scored a game-high 16 points for Biddeford, including 4 of 4 from behind the arc, and Cody Saucier added 11 points.

Isaac DesVergnes led Massabesic with 14 points, Alex Schepis chipped in with 10, and Owen Roberts pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

FREEPORT 57, LAKE REGION 44: Toby Holt scored 10 points for the Falcons (9-7), who outscored Lake Region (7-9) 18-6 in the second period to take a 33-19 halftime lead at Freeport.

Eriksen Shea scored 17 and Holt 14 for Freeport. Tristen Chaine led the Lakers with 17 points.

WAYNFLETE 89, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 56: Diraige Dahia scored 10 of his 22 points in the second quarter as the Flyers (13-3) expanded a six-point edge to a 45-29 halftime lead against Old Orchard Beach (8-8) at Portland.

Asker Hussein and Christian Brooks complemented Dahia with 19 and 16 points, respectively, and Dominick Campbell and Alex Saade added 10 each for Waynflete.

Ian Regan scored 15 points and Dale Lord 14 for the Seagulls.

YORK 54, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 49: William MacDonald finished with a game-high 13 points and Brady Cummins added 10 for York (11-5), which took command in the first half before holding off the Raiders (7-9) at Fryeburg.

Oscar Saunders finished with 12 points and Nathan Knapp scored all of his 12 in the fourth quarter as Fryeburg pulled within two points.

Christopher Cummins hit a pair of free throws to ice it.

MARSHWOOD 65, SANFORD 49: Cullen Casey and Ian Bryant each scored 15 points to lead the Hawks (6-11) over the Spartans (4-12) at Sanford.

Jake Perry added 10 points for Marshwood.

EDWARD LITTLE 61, MESSALONSKEE 45: Dawson Charles scored 12 points for the Eagles (7-9) in a loss to Edward Little (11-4) at Auburn.

Chase Warren added 10 points for Messalonskee.

Durby Shea scored 21 points for Edward Little.

HOCKEY

SCARBOROUGH 5, MARSHWOOD 2: Dawson Gendreau had a pair of power-play goals and added an assist to lead the Red Storm (3-11) over Marshwood/Traip Academy/Sanford (5-9) at Lewiston.

Zach Chaisson added two goals and Jake O’Reilly also scored for Scarborough.

Nathan DeWolf and Henry Honkonen scored for Marshwood.
