PORTLAND — The No. 5 Kennebunk girls basketball team was held to just seven points in the first half and the Rams could never recover as they fell to No. 4 York by a 44-31 score at the Portland Expo on Monday evening.
York, which will play No. 1 Brunswick in the Class A South semifinals on Wednesday, jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the opening two quarters.
Kennebunk would fight back and play an even third period with York. The Rams then outscored the Wildcats 17-13 in the fourth but it wouldn’t be enough.
Freshman Emily Archibald led Kennebunk (10-9) with 16 points. Samantha Creech added 10 points, while Ellen Neale and Alexandra Weisheit each had two points and Jessica Dupler added one in the loss.
York (11-8) was led by Nina Howe with 23 points.
