PORTLAND — A local family has created a $15,000 fund to improve the lives of students at Reiche Elementary School.
Working with the Portland Education Foundation and the Maine Community Foundation, Catherine and Todd Alexander, who have three children in city schools, established the Annetta Weatherhead Fund.
It is hoped the fund will enhance educational opportunities for students at the West End school through summer camp scholarships, wellness initiatives and other program needs, according to a press release from Portland Public Schools.
The fund is named for a staff member at Reiche “who epitomizes the underlying spirit and intent of the fund; a daily ‘all-in,’ ‘whatever-it-takes’ approach to support the school and student success,” the release said.
