Barry Hobbins and Lori Parham write, “The federal Lifeline program is supported entirely by a federal subsidy … Maine taxpayers do not shoulder any cost of the program.”

To say that the Maine taxpayers shoulder no cost is misleading. Do Hobbins and Parham not understand where the federal government gets its money? I believe it comes from those who are paying federal taxes … that includes many Mainers.

I have no objection to the elderly and truly disabled receiving this Lifeline, but to say it comes at no cost is untrue. Few things in this life are free.

Please know, for certain, that someone somewhere is working to pay the bill … for not only this benefit, but many others that people receive.
