ORONO — The University of Maine’s baseball season ended Friday when Stony Brook scored seven runs in the second inning and went on to an 11-4 victory in the losers’ bracket of the America East tournament at Mahaney Diamond.
The Black Bears (20-34) went 1-2 in the six-team, double-elimination tournament, with both losses to the SeaWolves (31-24).
TRACK AND FIELD
DIVISION I: Isaiah Harris of Lewiston qualified for the NCAA championships for the third straight year, posting the second fastest time in the East prelim quarterfinals at Tampa, Florida.
Harris, a Penn State junior, was timed in 1 minute, 46.80 seconds. He’ll join Georgia’s Kate Hall of Casco at the national championships June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
Hall qualified in the women’s long jump late Thursday night, finishing fourth at 20-61/4. She’s the defending NCAA champion, and also won the NCAA indoor title in March.
DIVISION III: Williams sophomore Emma Egan of Yarmouth finished second in the high jump at La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Egan, who won the NCAA title as a freshman, was in first until Cirrus Robinson of Ohio Wesleyan cleared 5 feet, 81/2 inches on her final attempt. Egan’s best clearance was 5-71/4.
Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik of Colby qualified for Saturday’s final in the 100-meter hurdles by recording the fastest prelim time – 14.5 seconds.
SOFTBALL
ST. ANSELM 4, ST. LEO 3: Megan Murrell of Scarborough singled home the tying run and Maggie Murphy of Scarborough scored the winner on a squeeze as the Hawks (43-10-1) rallied in the seventh inning to remain undefeated at the NCAA Division II nationals at Salem, Virginia. St. Anselm has four Scarborough players on its roster.
