SACO — Solange Beauchemin, 92, of Saco died on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Wardwell in Saco.
She was born on May 12, 1926 to Gaston and Lauretta (Bedard) Bellefeuille in Biddeford.
On Nov. 15, 1947, she married Jean L. Beauchemin at St. Andre Church in Biddeford. They spent just short of 70 years together until his death on Nov. 8, 2017.
Solange was a very hard-working individual, beginning her career at the age of 12 weaving at Pepperell-York Manufacturing in the Biddeford and Saco mills. As a young mother, she returned to the work force as a stitcher at Herman Shoe and later moved to the newly opened Nike Shoe manufacturing facility in the same mill complex in which she began her career, retiring in 1981 after more than 20 years of dedicated shoe making. She belonged to the 50-50 Club where she enjoyed playing bingo and volunteered for many years as a bingo caller at the Biddeford Community Center. She loved doing crafts, one of her favorites was macramé.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bellefeuille; and her sister, Rita Lamarre.
Solange is survived by her son, Jay Beauchemin and his wife Judy of Saco; two grandchildren, Marc and Michelle; and her good friends, Theresa, Bud, Mary, and Lorraine.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford at a later date.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Wardwell for the wonderful care that they gave to Solange.
