South Portland voters will go to the polls Tuesday to decide on a proposed $50.3 million school budget for 2018-19 that would increase spending $1.1 million, or 2.3 percent. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Recommended by the School Board and endorsed by the City Council, the amount to be raised in taxes for city schools would increase $1.9 million, or 4.7 percent, from $41 million to $43 million.

As proposed, the overall spending plan for municipal, school and county services would increase $2.4 million, or 2.8 percent, from $85.9 million to $88.3 million, according to Finance Director Greg L’Heureux.

The tax rate would increase 70 cents, or 3.9 percent, from $18 to $18.70 per $1,000 of assessed property value. At that rate, the annual tax bill on a $300,000 home would increase $210, from $5,400 to $5,610.
