Mikaela Conley

A Bar Harbor man told investigators he had consensual sex with the woman he’s accused of killing, but security camera footage captured him hoisting her over his shoulder while she resisted, and later dragging her lifeless body, according to court documents made public Friday.

The state affidavit indicates Mikaela Conley, 19, died from blunt force trauma to her head and strangulation.

Jalique Keene

Jalique Keene, 21, remains in jail, charged with murder in her death in Bar Harbor. Her body was found June 2.

Keene said the two had sex and there was a physical altercation afterward when Conley “became upset,” the affidavit said. He told investigators he left and never saw her again.

The two attended Mount Desert High School together, and Keene was a running back. He later played football for West Virginia State University and an amateur team in Serbia, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Keene’s lawyer, Jeffrey Toothaker, declined comment on Friday.

A detective wrote that a security camera outside a school captured a man appearing to be Keene at 3:36 a.m. hoisting the victim over his shoulder “and walking off with her as she is kicking her feet.”

Hours later, after the sun came up, he was seen again “hastily dragging her … toward the area where the body was found,” he wrote.

The affidavit was originally sealed at the request of the state Attorney General’s Office, but was released Friday after a judge rescinded the impoundment order.
