Your recent photo coverage of the Yarmouth Clam Festival was inconsistent with your title “Happy as Clams at High Tide” and insensitive at best.

The largest photo, above the fold on Page B1 on July 21, included an image of a 5-year-old boy (not looking all that happy) running with a pair of inflatable “novelty” rifles.

The Clam Festival represents all that is good in small-town America – hundreds of volunteers working hundreds of hours in their community to show our children the value and joy of coming together as a community.

Additionally, tens of thousands of dollars are raised to support many different programs in the community – the majority of which benefit our youth.

Surely you could have published a photo that captured more of this wonderful hometown spirit – maybe youth volunteers having fun – rather than one depicting a small child playing with guns.
