Brunswick police are investigating what they believe is the theft of a Bowdoin College van sometime early Sunday morning. Police are asking for help identifying a suspect.

The 2008 Ford Econoline van was believed to have been taken from Bowdoin College property sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, according to Brunswick Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz, who declined to release the exact address the vehicle was take from.

The van was then driven onto the Mere Creek golf course, which caused some damage to the course. Waltz declined to release the extent of damage at this point in the investigation.

Police are in possession of the van, but did not provide information as to when or where the vehicle was recovered.

Police posted photos and a video of a “person of interest” in the case on the Brunswick Police Department Facebook page. The individual may have been walking or hitchhiking on Route 123 in Harpswell in the area of High Head Road at around 5 a.m., according to police.

The posts characterize the incident as a case of aggravated criminal mischief.

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, police were still attempting to identify a suspect.
