A Monson woman remained held without bail Monday following her arrest over the weekend on felony drug charges, police said.

Deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office executed a drug search warrant just before 2 p.m. Saturday for Destiny Alton, her motor vehicle and her property. She was seen driving a blue 2009 Chevy Aveo and deputies knew her license to drive had been suspended and attempted to stop her.

When Detective Wilfred Dodge attempted to stop Alton, 37, the woman allegedly refused to stop and a passenger in the vehicle switched places with her, according to a news release from Sheriff Dale Lancaster.

Alton was stopped for operating after suspension on Spring Hill Road in Palmyra. The search warrant had been obtained by Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi II and was executed during the traffic stop with the assistance of Cpl. Mathew Cunningham, Detective Wilfred Dodge, Deputy Craig Dyer, and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agent assigned to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

During the search of Alton’s car, approximately 98 grams of fentanyl powder, a small amount of crack cocaine, 41 Xanax pills, $4,780 in cash, digital scales, drug related documentation, and drug related paraphernalia were seized. Alton’s 2009 Chevy Aveo was also seized.

Alton’s passenger, Andrew Veysey, 31, of Palmyra, was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle while suspended.

Alton was arrested and initially charged with aggravated trafficking in a scheduled W drug, Class C, fentanyl. The trafficking charge is aggravated due to the amount of fentanyl seized. The approximate street value of the fentanyl is $18,000.

Lancaster said the case is a continuation of the ongoing investigation of the selling and possessing of fentanyl in the greater Hartland area. Once this case is reviewed by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office more charges are expected.

Alton is being held without bail at the Somerset County Jail. Alton’s initial arraignment date was scheduled for Monday.
