BOWDOINHAM — John “Jack” E. Tourtelotte, age 75, died at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston on August 17, 2018 due to complications from an illness.

He was born November 29, 1942 in Ellsworth, Maine, the son of John and Edith (White) Tourtelotte. He attended Bowdoinham area schools, and was a graduate of Brunswick High School, class of ’60. He later served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic. He married Gloria Bourque June 22, 1968 in Brunswick.

He was employed by BIW for over 20 years as an electrician, retiring as a supervisor. He later worked for DownEast Energy, and at one time operated a small engine repair shop out of his garage. Jack’s lifelong contribution to the community was volunteering for the Bowdoinham Fire Department, beginning at 13 years of age and eventually serving as Fire Chief for 14 years.

Jack really loved the outdoors, and was happiest when he was outside. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed learning practical things, such as: carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing, woodworking, and small engine repair. He used the skills he acquired to help those around him.

Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Tourtelotte of Bowdoinham; two daughters, Joan Tourtelotte of Pittston, Renee Tourtelotte of Bowdoinham; a sister, Judy Caouette and her husband Roger of Topsham; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A graveside committal service will be Saturday August 25th at 11:00 in Bayview Cemetery, Bowdoinham. A reception will follow at the Bowdoinham Fire Department.
