Outdoor retailer L.L. Bean will formally open its electric vehicle charging station with a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 14 at 10 a.m. near its Freeport flagship store.

According to the company, the 8 Level II chargers and 8 Tesla Superchargers, make L.L.Bean’s charging station the largest in the State of Maine. They are free to use and open to both shoppers and the public.

The event coincides with National Drive Electric Week, a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles.

“My great-grandfather, L.L. Bean was a lifelong outdoorsman, and a selfdescribed conservationist long before it was popular,” said Shawn Gorman, L.L. Bean’s executive chairman, in a statement “For over 100 years L.L. Bean has remained committed to environmental stewardship in everything we do. These stations are yet another example of how we are trying to make the great outdoors even greater.”

The ribbon cutting will take place in the L.L. Bean Trout Parking lot off of Justins Way in Freeport behind the L.L. Bean Flagship Store. The event will include remarks from L.L.Bean executives, special guests and a variety of electric vehicles to see, test drive and more. L.L.Bean will be featuring some of its electric bikes that folks can try out as well.

The event is open to anyone with an interest in electric vehicles and electric vehicle owners are encouraged to come and test out L.L. Bean’s new chargers.
