SOUTH PORTLAND — Deqa Dhalac proved victorious in a race for a seat representing District 5 on the City Council, out-polling her opponent, Donald Cook, by a more than 2-to-1 margin.

According to unofficial election results, Dhalac received 1,418 votes, while Cook trailed with 700. Only two ballots were left blank.

The special election on Tuesday, Dec. 11 was held to fill the District 5 seat left vacant after Adrian Dowling’s abrupt resignation in September.

All districts voted at the Community Center at 21 Nelson Road between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
