BRUNSWICK — Noah Cox drained a long 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to lift the Brunswick High School boys basketball team to a 48-47 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over “Battle of the Bridge” rival Mt. Ararat on Tuesday.

In a close game throughout, Cox, who finished with 18 points, gave the Dragons a 2-0 start to the season.

The game was deadlocked, 11-11, after a quarter, and the Eagles jumped into a 24-23 halftime lead. But, Brunswick rallied, putting up 17 points in the third quarter for a 40-35 advantage.

Jared Balser led Mt. Ararat (0-2) with 18 points, with Austin Damon and Will Kavanaugh adding nine points apiece.

Finn Mitchell chipped in 11 points for Brunswick.

Mt. Ararat hosts Kennebunk on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Dragons visit Falmouth on Friday at 7 p.m.

Morse 74
Linc. Acad. 65

Thomas Warren dumped in a game-high 38 points and head coach Tom Maines won his first game in his return as Morse downed Lincoln Academy in KVAC action.

The Shipbuilders came out on fire in the first quarter, scoring 27 points behind Warren’s 18 in the opening frame. Morse took a 38-25 lead into the halftime break.

The Eagles cut the Morse (1-1) lead to seven points through three quarters, but the visitors pulled away for the victory.

Dylan Orr chipped in with 10 points, while Josh ter Mors added nine in the win.

The Shipbuilders were 12-for-14 from the free-throw line.

Joel Hatch led the Eagles (0-2) with 27 points, followed by Bryce York’s 13.

Morse returns to action this Friday when it hosts Westbrook (6:30 p.m.) in the team’s first home game of the season.

PTA 64

Pine Tree Academy jumped out to a 44-6 halftime lead in cruising to a Class D South win over Greater Portland Christian (0-2) at Freeport.

Grant Milano had 20 points and Jean-Louis Noraj 15 for the Breakers (1-0), who visit Forest Hills on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Josiah Yeaton added 12 points in the win, while Chris Amisi picked up 11.

Girls basketball

RICHMOND — Rylee Sevigny tallied 17 points to power Mountain Valley to a 47-46 Mountain Valley Conference win over Richmond.

The Falcons (2-0) jumped out to an 11-4 first-quarter lead and held a 24-17 edge at the half.

But, the Bobcats (0-2) came back, taking a 33-32 lead to the fourth quarter.

Kierstyn Lyons and Courtney Carrier had 10 points each in the win, while Richmond’s Hannah Moholland scored a game-high 18 points in the loss. Bryanne Lancaster added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Caitlin Kendrick tallied eight points.

At the free-throw line, Richmond finished 7-of-11 and Mountain Valley 11-of-18.

Richmond visits Oak Hill on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Hall-Dale 69
Wiscasset 16

Iris Ireland poured in 14 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to help lead Hall-Dale to an MVC victory over Wiscasset.

The Bulldogs (2-0) jumped out to a 13-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Cat Kincaid chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Bri Orr and Alice Yokabaskas each scored four points, and Zoey Waltz added three for the Wolverines (0-2).

Wiscasset will travel to Madison on Thursday for an MVC clash.

Morse 29

The visiting Eagles outscored the Shipbuilders 17-9 in the third quarter to pull away for a KVAC win at Bath Middle School.

Morse (0-2) received 13 points from Marija Medenica and nine from Julie Goddard.

Payson Kaler and Chelsea Williams each scored 13 points for Lincoln Academy (2-0).

The Shipbuilders visit Westbrook on Friday at 6 p.m.

Boothbay 60
Lisbon 25

Faith Blethen and Glory Blethen combined for 50 points to power the visiting Seahawks (1-0) to an MVC win over the Greyhounds.

Boothbay posted quarter leads of 17-2, 32-8 and 47-25.

Charlee Cox paced Lisbon (0-2) with 10 points, with Valerie Doucette adding five.

Lisbon visits Mt. Abram on Monday at 7 p.m.

Boys hockey

BRUNSWICK – Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde’s Ian Struck scored with 55 seconds to go in regulation, his third goal of the game, to help rally the Eagles past Windham/Westbrook, 5-4, Tuesday night at Watson Arena.

Struck finished with three goals and two assists, while linemate Noah Austin added a pair of goals and two assists in the win. Ian Cooke had two assists as well, with Hunter Merryman and Cam Poisson chipping in with an assist each.

Eagles goaltender Cade Charron (27 saves) kept his team alive with some big stops after they fell behind 3-1 in the first period and 4-2 after the second.

Windham/Westbrook’s Derek Corbett also had a hat trick to go along with an assist for the visitors. Colin Casserly also scored, and netminder Sean White made 24 saves in the losing effort.

The Eagles (1-0-1) are right back at it when they host Lawrence/Skowhegan/MCI on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
