KITTERY — Rachel Wall scored six of her 16 points in the third quarter as Freeport turned a seven-point halftime lead into an 18-point advantage on the way to a 52-32 win over Traip Academy in a Western Maine Conference girls basketball game on Wednesday.

Caroline Smith added 13 points for Freeport (3-1), which outscored Traip 15-4 in the third quarter to open a 42-24 lead.

Addy Hale scored nine points for Traip (1-3). Marlee Sumsion added seven.

Freeport hosts Morse on Friday at 7 p.m.

Oak Hill 76

Oak Hill raced out to a 20-4 lead after one quarter and sailed to the Mountain Valley Conference win over Wiscasset.

Raider Desirae Dumais led all scorers with 22 points, including three baskets from behind the arc. Abby Nadeau added 11 points, while Anna Beach chipped in with nine as Oak Hill improved to 5-0.

Sydnie Thayer paced the Wolverines (0-5) with six points and six rebounds, and Alice Yokabaskas added four points and six blocks. Latish Wright and Kateleen Trask each contributed two points each for the visitors.

The Wolverines host Spruce Mountain on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Boys basketball

WISCASSET — Oak Hill was consistent for four quarters in earning a 55-43 MVC win over Wiscasset, which fell to 1-4 and visits Spruce Mountain tonight at 7 p.m.

Oak Hill led 14-8, 28-17 and 42-26 at the quarter breaks.

Gabe Samson paced the Raiders with 11 points, with Ausborn Boston adding eight.

For Wiscasset, Bill Pinkham had a game-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Haiden Dunning added eight points and seven rebounds, with Matt Eckert picking up seven points and playing a strong game. Matt Chapman was solid on the boards with 13 caroms.

Boys hockey

BRUNSWICK — Gardiner’s Jared Shaw scored 11 seconds into overtime as the Gardiner Tigers rallied from three goals down in the second period to give Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde it first loss of the season, 5-4, at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

Tanner Hebert led the Tigers (2-2) with a goal and two assists. A.J. Chadwick added a goal and an assist, while Gabe Poirier chipped in with two assists.

Gardiner goaltender Quinn Veregge came into the game in relief of Max Dearborn and earned the victory, stopping all 15 shots he faced.

Ian Struck scored a hat trick and added an assist for the Eagles (3-1-1), who got three assists from Noah Austin and a goal from Hunter Merryman. Noah Magda added an assist, and netminder Cade Charron was solid in net, making 37 saves despite taking the loss.

Gardiner finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Eagles went 0-for-6.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde takes on “Battle of the Bridge” rival Brunswick on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. inside Watson Arena.
