BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s hockey team closed out the 2018 calendar with a tight 3-2 loss to visiting Lake Forest on Monday evening.

The Polar Bears head into the new year with an 0-8-1 record. The Foresters left Maine at 7-3-3.

Bowdoin took a 1-0 lead early in the second period off Miranda Bell’s first goal of the season. Tala Glass skated down the left side and found Bell with a centering pass. A quick shot from Bell put the puck past Jacque Rogers’ right skate at 2:11.

The Foresters evened the game midway through the period. Amy Budde worked the puck behind Bowdoin’s net, curling to the right post, and found Sydney Simone in front. Simone had an open look.

In the final minute, Jess Cloutier earned a one-on-one off a breakout pass from Julia Surgenor. Rogers stood tall and denied the late bid .

Simone went coast-to-coast at 12:10 in the final frame to give Lake Forest a 2-1 lead. Simone worked the puck out of the Forester zone and into Bowdoin territory, beating one final defender, and pulling across the goal face for her second of the game.

A minute later, Budde added to the lead with a goal from just inside the blue line. The puck rang off the right post and into the net off the deep shot.

With the goalie pulled and an extra skater, Bowdoin scored in the final four seconds to pull within one. Izzi Stoddard pulled the puck off the left boards and fed Tala Glass in the slot. Glass wristed a shot over Rogers to make the score 3-2.

Rogers ended the day with 21 saves, while Polar Bear netminder Kerri St. Denis made 29 stops. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Polar Bears return to NESCAC play with a weekend series against Williams beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. in Watson Arena.
