BRUNSWICK — Marley Groat returned to the lineup and scored 12 points as the Brunswick High School girls basketball team rolled to a 65-35 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Lincoln Academy on Monday.

The Dragons are 8-1 and host Leavitt on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles fell to 4-5.

Brunswick started strong, sprinting out to a 25-7 lead thanks to eight points from Groat and seven from Rosalie White.

White finished with 16 points, with Charlotte MacMillan adding 15, Groat 12 and Emily Larochelle 10.

Eleanor Mathews had 12 points for Lincoln Academy.

The hosts Falcons started strong en route to a Western Maine Conference win over Poland.

Freeport is 7-1 ahead of Thursday’s showdown with undefeated Greely, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

The Falcons held quarter leads of 14-5, 27-9 and 43-13, with Caroline Smith picking up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists. Rachel Wall also scored 15 points in the win, with Hannah Groves chipping in seven.

Ali Ferland paced the Knights (2-6) with seven points.

Freeport was 8-of-14 at the free-throw line, while the Knights were 3-of-11.

POLAND — Toby Holt led the charge with 22 points as Freeport rolled to a 67-49 WMC win over Poland.

The Falcons (7-1) scored 17 points in each of the final three quarters to take control.

Elias Thomas and Shea Wagner chipped in 14 points apiece in the win.

Isaiah Hill picked up 19 points for the Knights (2-6), with Jay Hawkes adding 10.

Freeport visits Greely on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The visiting Dragons jumped to a 22-10 first-quarter lead and pulled away in KVAC play at Newcastle.

Brunswick improved to 5-4 and hosts Lawrence Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Finn Mitchell and Noah Cox each scored 21 points in the win, with Sam Sharpe adding seven.

Joel Hatch paced the 1-8 Eagles with 19 points.

At the free-throw line, the Dragons were 13-of-19 and Lincoln Academy 13-of-20.
