NAPLES — A student has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat that prompted the evacuation of students at Lake Region High School and Vocational School early Wednesday. The threat was later found to be a hoax.

“With the help of the police, we were able to identify the student who wrote the threat. There is no danger to the students,” said a posting on the SAD 61 website.

The student, a 15-year old male, was arrested and charged with terrorizing.

The crime is enhanced to a felony by state statute because the threat caused the evacuation of a building, according to a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office.

“After consultation with Juvenile Community Corrections officials, the boy was released to the custody of his parents. The matter will be turned over to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office,” the release said.

Students were sent home early Wednesday after the threat was discovered in a bathroom stall at the high school. No middle or elementary school classrooms were impacted.
