I know firsthand how hard it is to challenge the fictional or twisted story of someone more powerful than you. I sympathize with those who have been duped into believing or supporting the fictional story. You trust that person, believe in that person, want to believe that person’s story. It’s easy to get caught up in the lie, wonder if you’re the crazy one and worry about what retribution will look like if you speak out.

It can be unsettling when you realize the story is untrue, and even more unsettling to acknowledge the truth. But silence only breeds more problems. Silence emboldens the lie and seers that alternate reality into the psyche of everyone around you. It festers and grows far beyond the original false story and storyteller. It’s soul-sucking.

This is where we are now as a nation. Paralyzed and confused about the truth and what to say about the truth. Yet now, more than ever, it is time to tell the truth. Unequivocally. With conviction.

I implore all our political leaders to stand up and speak the truth, even though it’s risky, because in truth there is hope. Ultimately that is the only way to rebuild trust, return to peace and calm and begin to work constructively together again.

I thank those who have spoken truth. But there are not enough of you. If you can’t stand alone, then band together and speak up. But do not remain silent. Your people need to hear from you.
