Jacqueline “Jackie” Sabatino

PORTLAND – Jacqueline “Jackie” Sabatino, 76, passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on April 15, 2021. She was born on August 30, 1944, the daughter of Earl and Leola (Duggan) Foote. Jackie attended local schools, graduating from Portland High School in 1962.

Jackie began her career in bookkeeping when she was only 16 and a junior at PHS thanks to the recommendation of her favorite bookkeeping teacher, Mr. Giftos. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for Emery Waterhouse Co, working her way up to supervisor of her department thanks to her hard work, enthusiasm, and skills.

She’d always wanted a family and left her job to be a stay-at-home mom. She loved teaching her children new things and watching them grow up along with her many nieces and nephews. She loved spending summers at their camp “Bunket” with family and friends.

After her children were grown, Jackie took a position at Maine Adoption Placement Services and My Choice—a live-in home where she supported pregnant young women who were placing their babies up for adoption. Her compassion, caring, and kindness touched many lives and will never be forgotten.

Jackie had a passion for traveling. Her favorites were Bermuda and Prince Edward Island, her mother’s birthplace. She loved trips to PEI as she learned something new about her mother every time she went. She also loved travelling with her “bus family,” with Sharon and Rodney and the gang to Foxwoods. She fondly remembered trips to Las Vegas where she once saw her favorite, Frank Sinatra.

Her other passion was local summer theater. She was able to see Mamma Mia thanks to Pat Lavaway, her sweet friend who surprised her with a ticket. During retirement she pursued one of her dreams—painting and drawing. She attended art classes taught by her dear friend, Jack Sullivan, and became quite good at it. Portland-She even sold some of her artwork.

Jackie is predeceased by her son, Joseph Sabatino; her parents; brothers Earl “Buster” and Bill Foote, her sister, Donna Stevenson; and her Wednesday night tea buddies Fran, Marg, Peggy, and Carole.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Tricia Nason and Tricia’s fiancé Rickard Falk; her sisters Irene Moore and Jean Huggard; her nieces and nephews; and Erin and Bill Mussenden who she loved so much they were just like her own children.

A memorial service for Jackie will be held later in the year.
