Portland police say they are still looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk and fled earlier this week.

The crash happened around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Bedford Street, and left the man with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to David Singer, spokesman for the Portland Police Department.

The 51-year-old victim, who was transported to the hospital, suffered a broken leg and facial injuries, Singer said Thursday. The crosswalk is near the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus.

“The driver of the vehicle drove away and left the scene,” Singer said in an email. Singer said police are investigating and more information will released if an arrest is made.
