I must call out state Sen. Brad Farrin for his letter of Jan. 29, “Thank Sen. Collins for standing firm, pursuing common-sense election reforms.” For all of the words, he moves the ball no farther down the road.

The inflammatory language, “Democrats’ so-called ‘voting rights’ bill,” is unnecessary, setting a fighting tone from the first sentence. He then proceeds to expound on everything wrong with the bill without suggesting an alternative.

I’ll quote our president: “What are Republicans for?” Since the 1980s, the Grand Old Party has been the “Party of No.” That needs to change. The Republican Party needs to tell us what it is for and how it intends to make it happen. Then we can have a discussion. Otherwise, all I hear is carping from the sidelines.
