Eleanor Helene (Klens) D’Amato

FALMOUTH – Eleanor Helene (Klens) D’Amato passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2022, at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth, two days before her 98th birthday. She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Scranton, Pa., to Anthony and Sophie (Panacewich) Klens.

She moved to Torrington, Conn. at the age of 16 and met her husband, Edward D’Amato. They were married on May 18, 1946, and spent 64 wonderful years together. They were attached at the hip until Edward’s passing in 2010.

Eleanor worked at various jobs throughout her life. She loved decorating her home, the holidays, flowers, baking, shopping, the Red Sox, dining out and especially loved her grandchildren. She and Edward enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and all through Europe. Eleanor was very feminine and stylish. She was considered to be the best dressed lady at the assisted living and nursing home. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Torrington, Conn. She moved to Maine in 2012 to be near her daughter.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Edward, her brother Edward; and a nephew John.

She is survived by her loving children, daughter Brenda L. D’Amato (Ron Rioux) of South Portland, son Dr. Kenneth E. D’Amato (Sharon) of Blacksburg, Va.; grandchildren Charity Crawford, Kathleen D’Amato, Rebecca Kobus, Gabe, and Sophie Rioux; great-grandchildren Max Crawford, Fleur and Clark Kobus; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Cook Funeral Home, Torrington, Conn. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery and a graveside service will be held later in the spring. Condolences maybe expressed online at http://www.cookfuneralhomect.com
