Stephanie Irene (Kilmartin) Griffin

SCARBOROUGH –
Stephanie Irene (Kilmartin) Griffin, beloved wife of Philip J. Griffin, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Feb. 27, 2022, at home with her husband by her side.

She was born on May 7, 1954, in Portland, to Helen and Stephen Kilmartin, one of eight children. In 1975, she married her high school sweetheart and lifelong best friend Philp J. Griffin. They raised three wonderful children together, Patrick, Joseph and Catherine.

Stephanie grew up in the west end of Portland and had many wonderful childhood summers on Peaks Island which brought her many happy memories. She and her family moved to Brewer and spent 35 years there before retiring and moving to Scarborough three years ago to be closer to family and friends.

A 1972 graduate of Portland High School, she continued her education and graduated from Westbrook College. She worked as a legal secretary and later used her medical and business education to self-employ as a medical transcriptionist.

Her greatest joy was her husband and children. Many years were spent attending sporting events, family celebrations and watching her children grown into wonderful adults. They have been her pride and joy. Her hobbies included reading books, knitting, doodling, painting, computer games, eating lobster or a simple red hot dog. She also enjoyed her daily drive to Higgins Beach with Phil and spending time at weekend cookouts there with family and friends.

Steph is so proud of the wonderful adults that her three children have become and has more recently enjoyed spending as much time as she could with each of her six grandchildren. She loved reading to them, playing with them and watching them grow so happily.

Anyone who knew Stephanie knows the light and the love she could bring into any room. She was the kind of person who saw the best in every single situation and every person. While her love and light will live on, her presence will forever be missed.

Stephanie was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, John Kilmartin.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Philip John Griffin (who she always referred to as her best friend in the world); her children Patrick, Joseph (Lisa), and Catherine Griffin; her beloved grandchildren Malina, Madalyn, Lucas, Caden, Gavin and Layla; her brother, Joseph Kilmartin; sisters, Sarah Jo Barton (Ray), Helen McBrady (Gus), Julianne Kilmartin (Gerald), Patricia Kilmartin, and Mary Tanous (David); her Griffin family, Bob, Ann (Dick), Sue, and Rick (Annemarie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who she loved all dearly.

There are no words to summarize the impact she has had on all our lives. Her kind heart and sweet smile will be very sadly missed.

Visiting hours celebrating Stephanie’s life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held on Peaks Island in the spring. To view Stephanie’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com
