Robert A. Rand

AUGUSTA – Robert A. Rand, 78, passed on Jan. 30, 2022 in spirit, but in body he is back in school (New England Medical College). He donated his body to help the medical field that he depended on much in his battle with cancer, diabetes, and heart problems. These problems were related to his exposure to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War as member of the US Army Air Corps. Bob also served in the US Naval Reserves (Seabees) for 20 years Bob was a book lover so much he married his favorite librarian, Mary. Bob and Mary loved taking courses at U Maine senior college. He had three BS’s and a Masters. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church.He loved magic from childhood and was president (Professor Foggy Bottom) of the Greenwood Assembly for a number of years.As a Statistician for the State of Maine he was president of their Union before retiring to boat building.Deering High School Class of 1962 a band member and a wrestler. He loved their reunions.He was the son of the deceased Miriam E. (Groves) Rand and Elwin Rand of Portland.Bob is survived by Mary (Sargent) Rand, his wife and son David H. Rand. Son Andrew passed early last year. He also leaves two brothers and wives David E. and Lynn Rand of Chelmsford, Mass., and Roger F. and Susan (Church) Rand of Hat Island, Wash., sister Sharon Jones, Roger’s former wife Lisa Rand, nephews John and Scott, along with nieces Sarah, Morgan and Haley; and Bob’s sister-in-law Nancy Silva and nephew Richard and niece Donna.Bob’s celebration life is to be held at a later date.In memory of Robert donation may be made to Cancer Research
