Anthony Bisco’s squib single scored Dominic Moffo with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and No. 7 Portland survived 10th-ranked Noble 9-8 in a Class A South opening-round baseball game at Hadlock Field on Monday.

The Knights (7-10) scored four unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but the Bulldogs (10-6-1) rallied behind three doubles and three RBI from designated hitter Andrew Legere to take an 8-6 lead.

Noble then came back in the top of the seventh with two runs to force extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, James Gignac led off with a single. Moffo came on to run and after being sacrificed to second, he scored easily when Bisco’s hit bounded into left field.

Liam Winship got the win in relief and seven players had at least two hits for Portland, which will take on No. 2 Falmouth in the quarterfinals.

SOUTH PORTLAND 11, DEERING 1: Andrew Heffernan finished with a single, triple and four RBI as the third-seeded Red Riots (14-3) topped the No. 14 Rams (3-14) in an A South first -round matchup in South Portland.

Ryan Thurber added three RBI on a double and a single and Richard Gilboy had a two-run single for South Portland, which advances to the A South quarterfinals on Thursday.

Qwest Newhall led Deering with two hits.

FALMOUTH 10, MASSABESIC 0: Brady Coyne and Patrick Gill each had two RBI on two hits as the No. 2 Navigators (15-2) shut out the No. 15 Mustangs (2-15) in Falmouth.

Ethan Hendry had a three-run single for Falmouth with Bennett Smith and Brennan Rumpf each adding an RBI. Dom Tracy pitched five innings for the win, striking out seven.

Christien Becker went 3 for 3 for Massabesic.

SCARBOROUGH 5, BONNY EAGLE 1: Harrison Griffiths pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk as the fourth-seeded Red Storm (13-4) defeated the 13th-seeded Scots (5-12) in Scarborough.

Thomas Donahue and Ashton Blanchette each had two hits for Scarborough.

Mason Ryan struck out nine for Bonny Eagle.

CLASS B SOUTH BASEBALL

MEDOMAK VALLEY 6, MORSE 1: Matt Holbrook pitched a four-hitter and had two hits and two runs scored as the eighth-seeded Panthers (11-6) beat the No. 9 Shipbuilders (7-10) to advance to the Class B South quarterfinals.

Ethan Reed paced Medomak with three RBI.

Calin Gould hit a triple and a double for Morse, and Gavin Baillargeon drove in the only run.

CLASS B NORTH BASEBALL

OCEANSIDE 8, CONY 2: The 12th-seeded Mariners scored five runs in the fourth inning to beat the fifth-seeded Rams in a Class B North prelim game at Augusta.

Connor Calderwood had a single and a double and Duncan Oakes-Nelsen had a single and double for the Mariners (7-10).

Oakes-Nelsen got the win, pitching seven innings. He allowed five hits and two runs. He struck out three, walked three and hit three batters.

David Kibler had two singles for Cony (13-4).

CLASS C SOUTH BASEBALL

WAYNFLETE/NYA 8, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 7: Lincoln Smith’s walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted fourth-seeded Waynflete/NYA (13-4) over No. 13 Old Orchard Beach (5-12) in a first-round game in Portland.

Smith finished with three hits for Waynflete/NYA , which advances to the C South quarterfinal on Thursday. Connor Wolverton also had three hits, including a home run.

Isaac LaChance tallied three hits for OOB.

SACOPEE VALLEY 11, TRAIP ACADEMY 5: Carson Black picked up the win for the second-seed Hawks (15-2), allowing one hit in three innings and adding a three-run homer in a C South first-round victory over the Rangers (1-17) in Hiram.

Minjae Kim led Sacopee with three hits. Black, Brady Metcalf and James Ritter each had two hits to help the Hawks advance to the C South quarterfinals on Thursday.

Zach Stacy went 4 for 4 and Cam Maes hit a home run for Traip.

CLASS A SOUTH SOFTBALL

PORTLAND 9, BONNY EAGLE 1: Sadie Armstrong tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts, and had two doubles, as the sixth-seeded Bulldogs (12-5) downed the #11th-seeded Scots (5-12) in a first-round game in Portland.

Hannah Hawkes had three hits with 3 RBI, Ruby Chase added two hits and with two runs scored, and Ainsley McCrum scored twice for Portland.

CLASS C SOUTH SOFTBALL

MADISON 12, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2: Brooke McKenney struck out 13 and didn’t walk a batter as No. 2 Madison rolled past the No. 15 Seagulls (3-14) in a Class C South prelim victory in Madison.

The Bulldogs (17-1) scored six runs in the third inning to put the game away, highlighted by a Landyn Landry double.

Lilly Levesque and Aribelle Linkletter each had three hits for Madison.

OOB finished 3-14.

CLASS A NORTH BOYS’ LACROSSE

EDWARD LITTLE 12, DEERING 5: Camren Dufour scored a season-high five goals as the eighth-seeded Red Eddies beat the No. 9 Rams in a Class A North prelim at Auburn.

The Red Eddies (3-10) will travel to take on top-seeded Falmouth (9-3) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Wesley and Andrew Clements each scored three times for the Red Eddies.

Andrew Burke had three goals for the Rams (1-12).

CLASS A NORTH GIRLS’ LACROSSE

PORTLAND 9, DEERING 7: Lilah Green, Phoebe Knoll and Emily Seavey each had three goals to lift the ninth-seeded Bulldogs (2-11) over the No. 8 Rams (3-10) in a Class A North quarterfinal at Deering High in Portland.

Taysia Blazejewski, Tessa Boxer-Macomber and Gabriella Harrigan all had one goal for Portland, and Caitlyn Huynh made nine saves. Portland will face No. 1 Yarmouth in the semifinals on Thursday.

Shay Rosenthal led Deering with two goals.

CLASS A SOUTH LACROSSE

SCARBOROUGH 22, NOBLE 7: Molly Henderson scored seven goals and added five assists and Natalie Bilodeau finished with six goals and three assists as sixth-ranked Scarborough pulled away to beat No. 11 Noble in a preliminary-round playoff game at Scarborough.

The Red Storm improved to 7-6 and will go to No. 3 Marshwood for the quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon.

Scarborough opened up a 10-5 lead at halftime, then quickly put the game away in the second half. Meagan Donovan added five goals.

Jenna Baxter had four goals for Noble (2-11).

BIDDEFORD 13, SOUTH PORTLAND 7: Cece Keller had five goals and an assist as the seventh-seed Tigers (7-6) cruised past the 10th-seeded Red Riots (6-7) in a prelim in Biddeford.

Abby Bouffard had four goals and two assists for Biddeford and Valentina Laflamme scored three goals. Melandi Martel had two goals and Nataliah Martinez stopped 15 shots. Biddeford will play second-seeded Massabesic in the quarterfinals.
