It’s encouraging that the Republican Party is helping Democrat and State Senate President Troy Jackson with his reelection campaign, as noted in Wednesday’s Press Herald (“Maine GOP plants fake signs in bid to tar Senate president,” July 20, Page A1).
Maine has a history of defunding the police that goes back decades, as communities all over the state, including Aroostook County, have disbanded or are considering disbanding their local police departments in favor of coverage from county or state officers, as they face budgetary or employment pressures.
This bipartisanship from across the aisle should be applauded, though perhaps not by Jackson’s opponent, whose name escapes me (but then again, I haven’t seen any of their signs).
