I’m hopeful our Maine Supreme Judicial Court rules in favor of New England Clean Energy Connect.

As a former power plant startup engineer, with an interest in power generation and distribution, I find it discouraging that our Maine voters got hoodwinked by big money political action committees. I’m no longer in the industry and have no interest in anything else other than making efforts to preserve our planet for as long as possible for future generations.

The largest contributor opposing the corridor was NextEra Energy, which, according to their online profile, tops their generating charts with 24,100 megawatts of natural gas generating capacity, seconded by 21,000 MW of solar and wind.

So, we have a business competitor of Hydro-Quebec, NextEra, which generates over half of their capacity from carbon-producing fuels, swaying our voters because Central Maine Power messed up on some electric bills and we are still bitter? Come on! We Mainers are smarter than that.

It’s embarrassing and inefficient to do what we did. We may want to be nicer to our Canadian neighbors – as it warms, we will need a place to live.
