Registrations now accepted for golf tournament
Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) is accepting registrations for its 28th annual golf tournament on Sept. 8 at the Dunegrass Golf Club and Sept. 20 at the Cape Arundel Golf Club.
Golfers can register in teams of up to four and are eligible to win prizes including pro shop gift cards and the coveted white lab coats for the top team. There also will be contests including for the hole-in-one, closest to the pin, longest drive, and a 50/50 raffle.
Businesses are invited to join the title sponsor – Atlantic Holdings, LLC – in support of the event.
This year’s tournament will help fund many post-COVID challenges at the hospital, including for many new programs and initiatives.
“The pandemic has highlighted the importance of high-quality, close-to-home health care in our community,” said SMHC present Nate Howell. “As we move past the worst of the pandemic, there are many new priorities we would like to focus on in the care we provide to our communities, and this tournament will help fund them. Plus it’s a fun day out on the course in great company.”

High school graduate earns memorial scholarship
Sadie Yentsch, of Kennebunk High School’s Class of 2022, is a recent recipient of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty’s annual Frederick W. “Rick” Griffin Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500.
Awardees of the scholarship are recognized by teachers, school administration, and peers as someone who personifies and embodies all that is “special” about living in the Kennebunks, as displayed in their passion through academic, athletic, and community involvement, while demonstrating a commitment to making the Kennebunks a better place to live and work.
Yentsch graduated from KHS in June with a plan to pursue environmental science and exercise and nutritional sciences at San Diego State University. While at KHS, Yentsch consistently earned honors and high honors while participating in numerous sports and extracurricular activities. She was a two-sport team captain for tennis and cross country. Her commitment to environmental sustainability inspired her to establish the Environmental Action Team, Maine Youth for Climate Justice as its founder and president.
Chris Lynch, president of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, noted “(Yentsch) is the kind of exceptional person we look for in memory of Rick Griffin. I can say without reservation that she shares the passion for the Kennebunks that we recognize.”
Lynch established the memorial scholarship in 2015, Griffin’s passing, endowing a $25,000 10-year scholarship program, that has already benefited six high school graduates in pursuit of a college education.
“I am looking forward to sharing (Griffin’s) story with the Kennebunk High School seniors over the next several years,” added Lynch. “I am hopeful that the recipients will return after college to continue to have the same positive impact on the community that earned them the scholarship.”
