The town of Berwick issued a “boil water order” on Saturday as a precaution because of possible contamination in the system, the town announced on it’s web page.
All Berwick Water Plant customers are urged to bring water to a rolling boil before drinking, making ice cubes, washing food, brushing teeth or any other consumption. Tap water can be used unboiled for bathing, showering and washing clothes, the town said.
This is a preventive measure, the town’s announcement said. Because of problems with the plant’s turbidity meter, the town saw irregular readings. “Therefore we cannot be sure to say there is no contamination in the system.”
On Thursday test results showed no coliform in the water. The town will post updates on its web page to let customers know when the boil-water order is lifted.
