A recent letter by Richard Williams (“Democrats hypocritical on Saudi oil,” Oct. 16) relies on false assumptions to support the utter fabrication that Democrats have cut the amount of oil produced in the United States.

Since President Biden’s first full month in office, U.S. oil production has increased 18 percent through July 2022 (the last month for which statistics are available), according to the Energy Information Administration. And the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act provides additional support for fossil fuels, a condition required to obtain Sen. Joe Manchin’s support.

In fact, the largest recent decrease in fossil fuel production was under President Donald Trump (but, since I’m not trying to obfuscate or completely ignore the truth, I’ll add that this occurred because of the pandemic rather than Trump’s policies).
