South Portland, Scarborough, and Cape Elizabeth will commemorate Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, with parades, ceremonies and fundraisers.

South Portland will host its annual Veterans Day parade, beginning in the Southern Maine Community College parking lot and making its way to Mill Creek Park where a wreath ceremony will take place. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 11:00 a.m.

The Scarborough Police Department’s Honor Guard will present the colors at an event at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough at 10:30 a.m. Police Chief Mark Holmquist will speak at the event.

“My remarks will cover a portion of my military service and honor those veterans who are in attendance,” Holmquist told The Forecaster.

In Cape Elizabeth, members of the police department will participate in the Home Base “No-Shave November” fundraising event. Funds will go to Home Base, a Red Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program that assists veterans.

As of Wednesday, over $86,000 had been raised and Cape Elizabeth Police Chief Paul Fenton hopes the department’s participation will provide awareness in the community and drive donations.
