Frances Evelyn Trufant Lieto

PORTLAND – Frances passed peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, November 15,2022.

She was born in Bowdoinham, Maine on September 17,1928. She later moved to the Cumberland – North Yarmouth area and attended local schools.

She graduated from Greely Institute in 1946. After graduation she went to Western Union Teletype School in New Jersey and was then sent to Waterville, Maine.

She became Western Union’s youngest traveling manager after attending manager training. She was sent to Mount Kisco, New York where she met her future husband, Eugene Lieto, and married in 1950.

Fran enjoyed dancing, reading, shopping, playing cards, and mahjong with her friends. She loved life and enjoyed the outdoors, walking or swimming, especially at Wildwood Park and beach, Cumberland Foreside, Maine.

After retiring she was able to live her dream of winters in Florida and summers in Maine.

She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Lieto, parents Charles and Gladys Trufant; brothers Lloyd, Earl, Carroll and Ronald.

She is survived by her beloved sister Betty Lou Stanhope and her husband Philip Stanhope, sister-in-law Dorothy Trufant, and many nieces and nephews.

Fran loved all of her nieces and nephews with a special bond with Dana Trufant who spent several summers with her and her husband Eugene.

There will be a spring internment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth, Maine. Special thanks to Birchwood at Canco and their caring staff. Also to Kindred Hospice and Hello There Primary care.
