This week’s State of the Tribes event at the State House was missing an important constitutional officer of our State: the governor.

Janet Mills demonstrated feckless leadership by missing this important event due to a “scheduling conflict.” It is hard to imagine what could be more important than attending the event while attentively listening and showing a willingness to engage in respectful dialogue with these important members of Maine’s citizenry.

The governor’s choice to not attend has left me feeling embarrassed and ashamed. I might have expected this rude behavior from the governor’s predecessor but I expect more engagement from the current administration. I feel a need to rethink my previous support of the present administration.
