Even though I disagreed with his thoughts on the National Popular Vote Compact, I would like to thank Jim Fossel for bringing the subject up in his recent column (“Supposed replacement for electoral college is flawed,” April 23).
What can be more frustrating than being a conservative in Massachusetts or a liberal in Mississippi, for example, and knowing that your vote in a presidential election really does not matter? Or living in a small state like Maine and practically being ignored by presidential contenders?
The electoral college is far more flawed than the National Popular Vote Compact may be, if it is flawed at all. I would encourage everyone to look into the National Popular Vote Compact with an open mind. And I urge all Maine elected officials to support it.
