MEXICO — Local firefighters and mutual aid partners were dispatched to 8 Thompson Hill Road at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday for a working structure fire with occupants reportedly trapped inside.

However, Deputy Chief Allen Chartier said, they learned owner Mark Daigle and his wife, two granddaughters and another male had escaped the two-story structure by the time firefighters arrived. Four dogs also escaped. However, some baby chickens were killed.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire pushing from the attached garage of the dwelling and working its way into the living areas.

He estimated up to 30 firefighters from Mexico, Rumford, Dixfield, Peru, Roxbury and Andover were on scene.

No one was injured, but the family has been left homeless.

Chartier said the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire to be electrical, from a light fixture in the garage.

He said the residence was insured, and the Red Cross was trying to find temporary housing for the family.
